Temple City Ushers in Halloween With Reimagined Festivities
Residents invited to join the fun with events that emphasize creativity, safely.
TEMPLE CITY (October 12, 2020)— Door-to-door trick or treating may be off the table this year, but Halloween will still go on in Temple City as two extra-special community events make their debuts this holiday season.
Looking for the perfect spot for that full-size skeleton? How about the front porch? This month, the City is launching its first-ever Halloween Door Decorating Contest, and residents are invited to indulge their competitive spirits by outfitting their front doors, entryways and porches with jack-o’-lanterns, spider-infested webs and other ghoulish and grotesque displays.
Winners will be awarded by City judges in three categories—Scariest, Most Original and Best Halloween Spirit—and each will receive a trophy and themed goodie bag. Photos of the award-winning displays will also be shared on the City’s website and social media platforms.
To join the contest, simply submit an online entry form at templecity.us/doorcontest no later than Thursday, Oct. 22, at 5 p.m., and prepare to have your space decorated by Sunday, Oct. 25. Judges will visit and rate each entry throughout the week of Oct. 26, with winners announced by Friday, Oct. 30.
Meanwhile, the following evening (Saturday, Oct. 31, from 6-9 p.m.), all Temple Citians are cordially invited to celebrate Halloween from the comfort of their cars with a themed Drive-Thru Event at Live Oak Park.
Visitors who dare to enter this treacherous journey will begin at the parking lot located at 10144 Bogue St., then proceed along Gracewood Avenue to the Daines Drive parking lot on the park’s south side.
Along the way, they’ll encounter all manner of spooky decorations as well as drive-thru booths where kids can receive candy through contactless pickup (while supplies last). Participants will be expected to remain in their vehicles, drive with extreme caution and obey all traffic laws.
“Halloween will certainly look a little different this year,” said Mayor Tom Chavez. “But the City has conjured up some tricks—and treats—to make sure that while it might not be a ‘normal’ Halloween for most of us, it’ll be just as memorable as years’ past because of the unique ways in which we’ve chosen to celebrate.”
For more information on both events, contact Temple City Parks & Recreation Coordinator Veronica Luna at (626) 285-2171, ext. 4510, or vluna@templecity.us.
