Free Fitness and Athletics Afterschool Program For Kids

I don’t know about your family, but my kids are dealing with the stress of online school. Their frustrations are creating big emotional moments especially with the recent heat wave and limited options for my kids to increase the feel-good endorphins in their body.

During this pandemic, parents and caregivers are working overtime to support and care for their children. As kids do school from home, how many will have ways to be physically active? Insurgent Fitness and Athletics Afterschool Program  provides a safe, effective and age-appropriate fitness regimen and is suitable for kids 10-17 with all levels of experience and fitness.

There are many physical benefits to exercise, for both kids and adults, but regular activity is also great for mental health. Exercise helps reduce stress and increases feel-good endorphins in your body. My daughter was part of a basketball team this last year and she always says how working with a team made all the difference in her getting out and performing at her best. Insurgent Fitness and Athletics Afterschool Program has been a fantastic motivation for my kids to stay active and I love how other students there support and encourage each other.


According to Insurgent Fitness and Athletics Afterschool Program Head Coach, Frank Santana, exercising with others is even better. Coach Frank says, “When children exercise with others, they gain the combined benefits of being together, growing together and encouraging each other to be active.  I don’t want kids to only think about the positive physical effects of exercising regularly; I also want them to know that physical movement can help them with their mental well-being as well.” 

Insurgent Fitness and Athletics Afterschool Program is designed to support kids and increase their coordination, flexibility, and strength training. It is ideal for kids to develop resilient motor skills, balance and to persevere through challenges. Coach Frank pairs fitness with fun and custom designs each class so each child is safe and appropriately challenged.

Insurgent Fitness and Athletics Afterschool Programs can be modified to fit every individual's physical level. In each class, the kids are given time to learn and progress on a specific foundational and/or core strengthening skill that will be in the workout. This includes but is not limited to: squats, V-Ups, push-ups, sit-ups, walking lunges, wall balls, etc. The class is designed for 1-hour sessions.

Insurgent Fitness and Athletics is FREE four days a week at their two locations; Walnut & West Covina (Tuesday & Thursday at West Covina and Monday & Wednesday at Walnut 3:30-4:30pm)

Insurgent Fitness and Athletics class classes are currently held outdoors, and sizes are purposely small. All of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and LA County Public Health guidelines are being followed. (The kids are separated much more than 6ft apart!) Every child is fully equipped with all the equipment he/she needs to complete the workout that day. Every piece of equipment is sanitized completely after every class, and also at the start and end of each day. There is a zero-tolerance policy, no equipment is shared and all athletes have to comply with temperature checks and social distancing guidelines. All of our coaches and staff are tested every two weeks to ensure we continuously operate in the safest environment possible.
