MacKid Review! Our Family's Visit to SkyPark at Santa's Village

By Kathy E. Macaroni Kid Arcadia Publisher March 24, 2019

With all the recent record rainfalls in the local area, we decided to take the kids on a magical adventure and spend a long weekend at Lake Arrowhead to capture the last of the winter wonderland in the forest.

I was just a little kid the last time I visited Lake Arrowhead and SkyPark was known then as Santa’s Village.  For years, I have been wanting to take my own kids to experience Santa’s Village but it had fallen in disrepair and been closed. So, you can just imagine my excitement when I found out that it was remodeled and reopened in 2016.  Life was busy then and I wasn’t able to get up there until recently when the stars aligned.

SkyPark at Santa’s Village is a winter-themed outdoor amusement park in Skyforest, which was a short 5 minute drive from our stay at the Lake Arrowhead Resort. Originally opened in 1955, it was the first franchised amusement park, one of three built by developer Glenn Holland. I adored all of holiday-themed décor, with all the fresh packed snow, it created the perfect winter wonderland for us.

We arrived on a Saturday morning and as we entered the entrance doors, we were greeted by the friendliest staff. We got our wristbands that allowed us to experience everything the amusement park had to offer.

My thrill-seeker daughter and I mustered up the courage todo the zip-line course first and it was a guaranteed exhilarating experience 30 feet above the forest floor! With the crisp, brisk, fresh air in our face, my daughter and I were giggling with delight as we took in the gorgeous views as we soared over the park.

We leisurely explored all of the other outdoor adventure attractions which included; archery, indoor and outdoor rock-climbing walls, bungee trampoline, ice skating, train ride, sledding, snow play, pedal cars, snow shoeing, and so much more. We took periodic breaks throughout the day and browsed their unique shops and sampled on many of their food and dessert trays at their cafés.

The mountain in the winter is absolutely stunning with all of the snow, and I can only image the beauty that is in store once the temperature warms up in the upcoming months. SkyPark at Santa’s Village in Spring/Summer offers fishing, hiking trails for all ages, and designed mountain bike trails that traverse through the scenic alpine forest and around their uniquely crafted wood bridges.
