The Perfect Place for a Family Vacation: Bahia Resort San Diego

By Kathy E. Macaroni Kid Arcadia Publisher April 9, 2017

Our family has created unforgettable memories in San Diego, and it is a city that is close to our hearts. My husband grew up in the area, my father-in-law lived there for years and as parents of small children, we realized that there is so much to do in the area. Going to San Diego is a little like taking a Disney Vacation (but generally for a lot less money). If you are seeking a quick getaway destination that the whole family will enjoy, San Diego has so much to offer. Whether its exploring the world-famous San Diego Zoo, visiting Old Town, pedal boating in Mission Bay, checking out the dolphins at SeaWorld, or enjoying a day in the sun at the beaches in Coronado, there is an endless supply of things to do in this kid-friendly town.

Over Spring Break we decided to visit Mission Bay San Diego for a quick weekend getaway and stayed at the family-friendly Bahia Hotel & Resort and we couldn’t be more pleased with all of the accommodations they had to offer. Within minutes to SeaWorld San Diego, walking distance to the Mission Beach boardwalk, and Belmont Park, home to the famous Giant Dipper roller coaster, Bahia Resort’s family friendly location is central to so much of San Diego!

The hotel is located directly on a peninsula on Mission Bay, offering numerous oceanfront rooms, where you can sit and enjoy the view the entire stay. The grounds were beautifully maintained, the views were stunning, and the rooms were pristine.

When we arrived at the resort, we were greeted by friendly staff members in the lobby. We were immediately impressed with the cleanliness and beautiful decor of the property which reflected a tropical oasis. We were able to pull our car close to the building, where our room was located, and unload all our suitcases with ease.

Once the sun began to set, and the kids did their last cannon ball into the pool, our family got dressed and walked just a few steps away for dinner at Café Bahia. The American cuisine restaurant featured some of the best steaks we have ever had and also offered healthy, fresh, and delicious kids meal options. To make dinner even better, on Friday nights, kids eat free with selections off the kid’s menu (with a purchase of an adult meal).

After dinner, we were ready for an evening stroll along the beach and enjoyed a family moonlit cruise aboard the Bahia Belle conveniently located near the Café Bahia.

The next day, we explored the property and viewed the feeding of two of Bahia’s rescued harbor seals (Billie and Grace). Both seals are blind, which is why they were rescued from the wild, and have their own enclosure to call home and wonderful care right in front of the Bahia Resort.

The pool area was very large and there was enough kid activities to keep them busy for the entire day. We enjoyed lunch at the cabana, and since there were so many activities to keep the kids busy, my husband and I were able to have some rare alone time.

We were also able to take advantage of having a private beach in front of our hotel room and spent time enjoying our complimentary cabana chair. Spending a few hours searching for sea shells and making sand castles, we headed back to the pool for a dive-in movie. The kids floated on the water while watching the Trolls movie, and stuffed our faces with complimentary popcorn. It was the perfect ending to our last night at Mission Bay.

The Bahia Resort is the best place for families to stay when visiting Mission Bay. The staff will create a family travel experience unlike any other by providing the best hospitality. When looking for a fun new place to have a weekend getaway with your family this summer, make plans to stay at the Bahia Resort, it is our favorite destination in Mission Bay!
