MK Review! Our Experience at the Orange County Railroad Museum

By Aimee Mendoza, Macaroni Kid Arcadia Assistant Publisher April 12, 2018

My family had such a fun time at the Orange Empire Railway Museum’s Bunny Train event!

Riding the train with the Easter Bunny was the reason we went, but we were surprised to find lots of other great bunny and Easter themed activities that day.  There were kid crafts available that included building your own Easter basket, creating bunny hats, and coloring Easter themed pages. There was live music and dancing for kids, and even a bounce house.  There were sack races and egg races with prizes, and a chocolate egg scavenger hunt that sent us looking for chocolate treats at different stations throughout the grounds.  There were even food vendors in case you wanted to have lunch, or just a lemonade.

Tip: Get there early so you can participate in the organized activities.  The props for the races were still available when we got there in the afternoon, but I’m sure it would have been a ton of fun for the boys to participate with other kids in their age groups.

The bunny train was a blast! As we boarded the train we were greeted by the conductor.  He welcomed the kids, and gave a quick run down of how things worked.  As we got underway, I immediately saw the excitement on my boys’ faces.  They have ridden on the metro trains before but never on a “real train”.  Soon after we got moving the goodies were passed out. Each child got to pick a plush toy - we got a bunny and a duck!  Then, the Easter Bunny came around to each family with plastic eggs filled with little toys and stickers.  The bunny’s helper was there to make sure everyone got to take a picture with the Easter Bunny.

After riding the train with the Easter Bunny, we explored thegrounds.  We were impressed with the beautifully restored train cars of all types. We even got to walk through some of them to experience what it would belike to stay in an old Pullman car, and to see the inside of a Santa Fe Railway Post Office car.  There is also a trolleycar that makes a circuit of the grounds while the trolley operator talks about the car’s history and restoration.

All in all, the day was fun for the whole family, and we would definitelygo back to Orange Empire Railway Museum for some more exploring or another event!
