Are you looking for a great summer day trip with your kids? How about spending the day taking them back in time to the 11th century. Medieval Times Dinner and Tournament now offers a 90 minute educational matinee show called “Chivalry in Action” that includes lunch, an intense joust and battle scenes with an underlining message throughout that speaks of knighthood, chivalry, fairness, compassion and respect.

The “Chivalry in Action” show is geared for kids aged 5-12, and carries the “anti-bullying” theme, encouraging chivalry with every decision a child makes in their lives.
Once we sat down, we were pleasantly surprised to see our meal was already on our plate. The meal consisted of a perfectly cooked ¼ chicken, corn on the cob, potato wedge, garlic bread and a bottle of water. This was just enough food for a great lunch and topped off with chocolate chip cookies, yum!

A four course lunch! Nobody will go home hungry after the show.

The show started with the introduction of the King and his daughter, the Princess, who unfortunately had a drink spilled on her dress by her servant. The servant is berated by the other knights and both the King and Princess explain that their behavior should reflect kindness and compassion. Several more examples were used to model the importance of a chivalrous character. The rest of the show was filled with the knights, or Lords, from different nations competing against each other in games of skill, jousting, and finally battle, while each section cheered on their knight.

By the end of the show, both my kids were smiling ear to ear and could not stop talking about the show. The message of kindness, compassion, and respect for each other was moving and gave us some great conversations on the way home as well. This was an amazing, sit on the edge of your seats show, and it was the perfect fun family activity for a hot summer afternoon.       I highly recommend it!
