LICE: The four letter word no mom wants to hear!

When lice strikes, be ready. Parent Approved!

Last week, I arrived to pick up my son from school and I saw the note at the sign-out table that every parent dreads to see. It read in bold letters:

“Your child has been exposed to lice today. Heads have been checked. Please go home and check your child’s head again”.

Feeling itchy yet?

I am. My family has dodged several lice outbreaks at our kids’ schools and at playgroups, but only because of luck. I know it’s inevitable my child will come home with it, and it will be our turn to join my mom friends- whose kids have got it and their lives were in disarray with constant hair-combing, head checking, and laundry piling high for weeks.

Being the “prepared and plan” neat freak that I am, I proactively have done my due diligence and did a ton of research online about the four-letter word no mom wants to hear that her kids may will come home with.

There are two popular “lice” infestation times in the year. Winter, where lice are easily transmitted through clothing layers, hats, scarves, gloves, jackets, sweaters, etc., and yes of course, summer, with increased playdates, road trips, summer camps, and sleepovers, where lice can spread rapidly through the sharing of pillows and bedding.

So, what is a proactive mom to do? I knew I needed to find a gentle, pesticide-free, Lice removal solution that could do the following:

1. I needed an easy one & done application that that would eliminate super lice, regular lice and the eggs. I knew that if I missed one egg, and it hatched the whole problem would start over again.
2. My kids have sensitive scalps and are prone to skin allergies, so I need an effective, non-toxic solution for lice removal.
3. I needed a prescription strength over-the-counter formula to eliminate lice-fast. What mom has time to scour the drug store for a lice treatment when an infestation occurs, much less wait for a prescription for a lice removal from their pediatrician? When lice strikes, I wanted to be fully prepared - and ready to attack those nasty little buggers.

At my recent trip to Walgreens, I was thrilled to find Lycelle Head Lice Removal Kit which met all of my family’s criteria for lice removal. Here are a few simple tips to prevent those nasty little buggers from invading your child’s scalp:

1. Educate your child about the effects of lice and not to share any hair accessories like combs/brushes, ribbons, hats, etc.
2. Teach them ways to avoid head contact with others.
3. Wash the pillow covers and combs regularly and run a lice comb often to detect any new infestations.
4. If your child has long hair, tie it up in a braid.

I was surprised to know that clean hair actually attracts the lice, if your child has dirty hair they are more inclined to stay away! That sure seems to be an easy option, but it’s obviously not ideal!
