MacKid Review:
Beautiful scenery, giant aquarium windows, petting areas, shows, awe-inspiring fashion, photography, and artwork, as well as delicious food. This is the only way to describe the 8th Annual Urban Ocean Festival my family and I had the privilege of attending this week.
The Festival has something for everyone. My teenage daughter was enthralled with the fashion contest finalist drawings, while my preteen son loved the sculpture winner's piece. My husband and I both loved the painting and photography pieces and our youngest two couldn't get enough of the aquarium windows and their inhabitants. Not to mention, the tasting of Seafood For The Future left us wanting more.
Urban Ocean Trashin' Fashion Contest Finalist Jessica Garcia's drawing of the three dresses she will be creating for the Festival's Fashion show. Two of the dresses will be made with recycled Starbucks cups and the other dress will be made with recycled newspaper.
Urban Ocean Trashin' Fashion Contest Finalist Ning Tung Tong's drawing of the dress she will be creating for the Festival's Fashion show. This dress will be made using recycled foam, plastic bags, produce bags, and empty pens and highlighters that have been crushed.
Urban Ocean Art Contest Sculpture Category Winner, William Kieffer, created this sculpture by using items he found while walking on the beach.
Urban Ocean Art Contest Photography Category Winner, Laurie Mortara, captured the joy and laughter of a family enjoying a day at the beach.
Urban Ocean Art Contest Painting/Drawing Category Winner, Julia Montgomery, used water colors and graphite to recreate the feel of being amidst a swarming school of fish while scuba diving.
I highly recommend visiting the The Urban Ocean Festival. The Festival runs from Saturday, April 29 through Sunday, April 30 and the cost is included in your Aquarium admission.
8th Annual Urban Ocean Festival
Explore and celebrate Southern California's coast during the Aquarium's Urban Ocean Festival. The event will include art exhibitions, a fashion show and contest for designs using recycled materials, mural painting, poetry readings, booths, and educational activities. Urban Ocean boat cruises exploring the local coast and port complex will be available during the weekend at additional costs.
