Balboa Fun Zone is the perfect destination to escape the heat

By Kathy E, MK Arcadia Publisher September 30, 2016
Last weekend we had the opportunity to escape the heat of the valley and spend the weekend in Newport Beach! We ventured to the Balboa Peninsula of Newport Beach, and stumbled upon the Balboa Fun Zone and Discovery Cube Ocean Quest. Along the Balboa Peninsula is a stretch of shops, rides and restaurants all by the water. My kids loved watching the dock next to the Fun Zone where a Ferry stops to pick up vehicles and people to cross the bay, taking them to Balboa Island.

There were several rides at the Balboa Fun Zone, and it catered to kids 36” and up. Our kids’ favorite was the Ocean Motion, a bungee cord apparatus that launches riders up to 20 feet into the air, offering stunning panoramic views of the Newport Beach harbor!

The ride operators were great, and very accommodating to help my kids do a few stunts of flipping over and unique movements on the trampoline! For a ride that everyone can enjoy together, right next to the Ocean Motion is “The Happy Swing”, a ride that lifts up to 12 people to-and-fro in a clockwise and counterclockwise motion- and the name of this ride does do it justice-this swing did make them “happy” .

The next activity we ventured to was the Coconut Tree Climb- a tree climbing activity where adults and children alike can race against each other to see who can climb the fastest up to the top of the coconut trees! We loved that safety was first and foremost, as all participants were strapped in using a harness and auto-belay system.

We spent about 5 hours enjoying the Fun Zone and Discovery Cube Ocean Quest – their current exhibit: Shipwreck! The Exhibition, takes guests to an “under the sea” adventure thousands of feet below the ocean’s surface to discover some of the most fascinating treasures that have been locked away for centuries. The exhibit leaves Oct 15th, so don’t delay!

You can purchase Fun Zone tickets at the booth at the boardwalk, or purchase an unlimited ride wristband for $20, and it includes all day Fun Zone rides and access to the Discovery Cube Ocean Quest.

I recommend visiting the Fun Zone, and bring a stroller if you have younger ones. You’ll want to venture and walk along the boardwalk and just enjoy the views and sights of Newport Beach. Family Fun for kids and adults!
