The 10th Annual Jamboree — Get Cubed or Be Square

Parenting OC magazine has partnered with Discovery Cube in Santa Ana to present the 10th Anniversary Edition of the Kids' Summer Opportunities Jamboree event, to take place on March 5, 2016 at the iconic Orange County family destination. Discovery Cube, which expanded this past summer, doubling in size, and adding among other attractions, the 10,000 square-foot Julianne Argyros Showcase Theater, is the leading hands-on science center for families in Southern California. On the day of the Jamboree event, which is free to attend, the Center is also offering free childrens' passes for admittance to the Cube.

“We wanted to do something big and exciting for our 10th annual Jamboree,” said Parenting OC Media President Randall Tierney, regarding the choice to hold the event at the Cube. “It doesn’t get any bigger than this.”

The Jamboree event, which will take place in the Showcase Theater, features exhibitors specializing in summer fun and learning opportunities for families, including overnight camps, day camps, sports leagues and clinics, outdoor adventures, horse and cattle ranches, surf and swim programs, science and technology camps and more.

“Sending your child off to camp, or to any summer program for the matter, is not something parents do on a whim. At the Jamboree, moms and dads can research and talk with the program leaders and camp directors face-to-face, and get all their questions answered. Then they can head off for a full day of fun at the Cube.” Free passes are available to all children, ages 3 to 14, for admittance on the day of the Jamboree event. The tickets (each valued at $12.95) can be downloaded from www.parentingoc.com.

Admission to the Jamboree is free. Saturday, March 5, 2016, 10 am to 3pm, at Discovery Cube, 2500 N. Main St., Santa Ana, CA, 92705. For more information, go to www.parentingoc.com, or call 714-630-4510 x 6.

PARENTING OC MAGAZINE AUDITIONS CUTE KIDS FOR COVER SHOOT AT DISCOVERY CUBE

While you are at the Kids' Summer Opportunities Jamboree event at Discovery Cube, audition for the Cute Kids Cover Contest!  Parenting OC has received over 40 entrants to the Cutest Kid Cover Contest, one of several family fun attractions at the popular event on Saturday, March 5 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The contest, held every year for the past 12 years, includes four age categories: Baby (6 months to 2 years), Tot (ages 3 to 5), Kid (ages 6 to 9) and Tween (ages 10 to 13). The winner in each category will be photographed by internationally-celebrated cover photographer, Ana Brandt. Each winner will be featured on the cover of the magazine, which has won national awards for its covers. All nominees are photographed at the event, and will receive a keepsake cover just for entering.

The Cute Kid photo sessions make for great entertainment at the free event, which features over 60 day camps, overnight camps, sports, learning and performance art programs and more to help parents plan their kids' summer with one-on-one face time with camp directors.

In addition to the exhibits, the Jamboree offers a full day of family fun, including meet-and-greet photo opps with Curious George, jedi knights and those oh-so-popular frozen princesses. Slithery snakes, giant frogs, hairy tarantulas and an alligator from The Reptile Zoo will be competing for attention with hands-on opportunities. In the parking lot, gamers can show their X-Box and Playstation skills in the Extreme Game Truck, a hybrid luxury limo-semi with mood lighting effects in the ceiling, 6 55-inch screens, surround sound and every major gaming console known to little mankind.

Over $3500 in prizes will be given away to those who successfully complete the family scavenger hunt, held on the exhibit floor. Those prizes include a week of sumer camp (Camp James, Camp Galileo, Irvine Slammers Soccer), an OCSA class, $1,000 toward Smile Wide orthodontia and a two-year family pass to Discovery Cube,
The biggest family fun attraction at the Jamboree event is the iconic Discovery Cube itself, which expanded last summer and added several new attractions.
